Genoa - Nevada
Founded in 1851, Genoa is known as the oldest settlement in Nevada. In the Spring and Summer months the museum in the old Courthouse reflects the local history. Across the street in the state park is a trading post with more interesting relics.
An impressive statue of "Snowshoe" Thompson stands in the Park. Snowshoe was a Norwegian-American who carried the mail between Genoa and Placerville during the winter months. He did this on hand-carved skis for 20 years, making the 3-day trip two times a month.
Sleepy and picturesque, the town also offers fine dining, a general store and several antique shops. Genoa still retains much of its old-time charm. A short way down the road, historic Walley's Hot Springs provides a swimming pool, several spring-fed hot pools, a sauna, exercise room, tennis courts, and dining facilities.
If you enjoy walking or biking, the area has many country roads and hiking trails through beautiful scenery.
